Biggest Attractions in Each State

There are plenty of fun road trips to take around the U.S., but there’s so much to see that it can be hard to narrow things down. If you want to be sure you’re hitting all of the major landmarks, check out our list of the most popular attractions per state.


Alabama: US Space and Rocket Center- Regardless how much you know about rockets and space, this attraction in Huntsville is not only a fantastic educational experience, but also a fun one!

Alaska: Mt. McKinley- A trip to the Denali National Park and Preserve is not one that disappoints. With over 6 million acres of land and the tallest mountain in North America, there is plenty to see and do.  

Arizona: Grand Canyon- One of the most popular road trip destinations, the Grand Canyon is definitely a geographic sight to see.

Arkansas: Hot Springs National Park- Bask in the beautiful hot springs of Arkansas’ most famous national park.

California: Golden Gate Bridge- Located in San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is big, red, and hard to miss.

Colorado: Red Rocks Amphitheater- Whether you’re attending a concert or just going for fun, the amphitheater is a beautiful place to visit.

Connecticut: Mystic Aquarium- Explore and interact with all sorts of animals at this fantastic aquarium!

Delaware: Air Mobility Command Museum- If you enjoy planes, trains and automobiles, the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover is a great place to stop.

Florida: Disney World- Although it may not be the parent’s favorite destination, Disney World is certainly unique and bigger than any child’s imagination.

Georgia: Coca-Cola Factory- Explore the world behind one of America’s most iconic drinks. Located in Atlanta is the Coca-Cola factory where you can take tours, buy merchandise and discover just how big this company is.

Hawaii: U.S.S. Arizona Memorial- Aside from the beautiful beaches and sunny weather,

Idaho: Craters of the Moon National Monument- Take a peek at the world’s deepest rift crack and try not to get burned by the three lava fields at the Craters of the Moon.

Illinois: Millennium Park- Home to the famous giant bean, Millennium Park is where many residents and visitors of Chicago like to hang.

Indiana: Indy 500- Not so much of an attraction as it is an event, the Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a famous race that brings people from far and wide to Indiana.

Iowa: Field of Dreams- People like to take the opportunity to explore the famous filming location for this popular movie!

Kansas: Dodge City- Take a trip back to the Wild West with a visit to Dodge City.

Kentucky: Kentucky Derby- Like Indiana, Kentucky is most popular for a specific event rather than an attraction. The Kentucky Derby is one of the most famous horse races in the US that takes place annually in May.

Louisiana: French Quarter- In the heart of New Orleans is one of the most lively areas in all of the US. The French Quarter is an especially popular attraction during Mardi Gras!

Maine: Mount Desert Island- Located in the Acadia National Park, this land is apart of the East Coast’s oldest national park.

Maryland: Antietam National Battle- As the site of one of the bloodiest days of the Civil War, this battleground is well-visited by history junkies.  

Massachusetts: Salem Witch House- Popularly known as the location of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692.

Michigan: Henry Ford Museum- Take a trip down memory lane with hundreds of antique cars and original machinery.

Minnesota: Mall of America- With over 530 stores, the Mall of America stands tall as the largest mall in the US. You could easily spend a whole week walking around the mall if you wanted!

Mississippi: Gulf Islands Shore- Kick back at the white sand beaches of the Mississippi coast.

Missouri: Gateway Arch- Whether you’re driving through or stopping to take a photo, the Gateway Arch is hard to miss.

Montana: Glacier National Park- Filled with breathtaking views and fresh air, this national park is a great place to visit if you need a break.

Nebraska: Chimney Rock- There’s nothing quite like this natural rock formation.

Nevada: Las Vegas- It’s hard to say the biggest attraction is an entire city, but with Vegas it’s true!

New Hampshire: Portsmouth Harbor Light- A picturesque sight at the Portsmouth seaport.

New Jersey: Atlantic City Boardwalk- Aside from being an infamous filming location for reality TV shows, the boardwalk is a great place to explore during the day and have fun throughout the night.

New Mexico: Carlsbad Caverns- If you like adventure, exploring these caves on a guided tour is perfect for you!

New York: Statue of Liberty- A gift from France, the tall, green lady stands in the water next to New York City.

North Carolina: Vanderbilt Mansion- Ever wonder what it would be like to live in the biggest home in the US? Don’t worry, you can tour it!

North Dakota: Theodore Roosevelt National Park- Take a hike, go on a bike ride or venture to this national park to just enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views.

Ohio: Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame- Regardless of what your music genre preference is, this music museum is a fun one to tour and reminisce.  

Oklahoma: Route 66- You may have sung the song before, but now it’s time to see it in person! Although the full highway runs across the country, the longest part of it runs through Oklahoma.

Oregon: Crater Lake- Take a trip to the deepest lake in the United States, but make sure not to fall in!

Pennsylvania: Gettysburg- As we’ve mentioned in previous blogs, Gettysburg is one of the best road trips to take with the family!

Rhode Island: The Breakers- Remember the US’s largest mansion? Well this is the Summer home for that same family.

South Carolina: Myrtle Beach- You’ve probably heard about it from multiple country songs, but Myrtle Beach is a great place to visit to get the true Carolina experience.

South Dakota: Mount Rushmore- See Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson like you’ve never seen them before- carved into the side of a mountain.

Tennessee: Nashville- Although it’s an entire city, Nashville is the biggest attraction in Tennessee, because there’s nothing like this city anywhere else. Get ready for live music and good times everywhere you go!

Texas: The Alamo- Visit one of the most valued landmarks from the Texas Revolution.

Utah: Zion National Park- Popularly known as one of the most breathtaking national parks in the US, this spot has everything including riding into the Zion Canyon.

Vermont: Ben and Jerry’s Factory- If you like ice cream, this is a stop you won’t want to miss!

Virginia: Colonial Williamsburg- Take a trip back to the 18th century by visiting this historic town.

Washington: Space Needle- It’s hard to miss as one of the tallest points in all of Seattle. Most visitors like to make a few stops at Pike Place Market before heading over to this very visited attraction.

West Virginia: New River Gorge National River- We recommend you travel here during the warm Summer months if you want to spend time on the water!

Wisconsin: Harley Davidson Museum- Like bikes or not, this museum is very cool!

Wyoming: Yellowstone National Park- Finishing off the list with another national park, Yellowstone is known for the wild animals and peaceful scenery.
