With Summer coming to a close and the kids going back to school, it is easy to feel like all the free time slipped away too quickly. The nice thing about owning an RV, however, is that you can create a mini vacation anytime you want! If your family has a free weekend this Fall, or you’re trying to plan a great Thanksgiving trip, consider some of these road trips that are best to take during the Fall season!
Columbia River
Starting in the middle of September, this 80 mile stretch of scenery that travels through Oregon and Washington, is covered in the most beautiful variety of colors. Between the tall trees and great maple leaves there’s not a view better than this! Getting to the Columbia River is a simple trip north, then once you reach the river you can drive the RV as far up as you’d like. Parking along the river is not difficult and there are plenty of RV parks where you can spend the night. Traveling along the Columbia River can be a week long trip, or a short weekend getaway!
Great Smoky Mountains
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most visited national parks in America, and the scenery is just one of the reasons why. Visitors recommend visiting this beautiful Tennessee park in late October or early November because that is when the trees are changing the most and the colors are the richest. There are over 850 miles of long roads and beautiful hikes!
Glacier National Park
When most families think about vacation, Montana may not be the first place that comes to mind. However, Montana during the Fall, when the trees are changing and the weather is the perfect temperature, can make for one of your best family vacations yet! Glacier National Park is a popular destination during the Summer which is why traveling there during the Fall allows you to avoid the craziness and business of peak season. If you go during the Fall season you are also more likely to see local wildlife.
Aspen
Known as one of the best skiing destinations for the Winter, Aspen, Colorado can also be a treat during the Fall. With the weather not being too chilly yet, families can experience the hiking trails, campgrounds and bike paths to their full potential. Aspen has some of the most breathtaking views in US at any season, but the Fall foliage is definitely not one to miss! Sugar Loafin’ is just one of the RV parks and campgrounds in and around Aspen.
Gettysburg
We’ve mentioned Gettysburg before, but it deserves another shout out because this Pennsylvania destination is most scenic during the changing of the leaves in Fall. Gettysburg is one of those trips that half the tourists visit for the educational purpose, while the other half are there for the beautiful views. Although it’s a little bit of a further destination than you may be looking for, the journey is worth it! Gettysburg is definitely a destination for families looking to spend a few weeks on the road.
Your RV has probably gotten some use during the Summer, so make sure to bring it into the RV Shop for a check-up and to fix any broken parts before heading back onto the road during Fall!
