Although there’s only a little more than a month of Summer left, there’s still plenty of time for a family road trip! Whether you’re just taking a short weekend trip, or you’re leaving for a week long adventure, there are a few things you have to remember to pack! We’ve created a list of road trip essentials during the Summer so you can make sure you’re not forgetting anything!
Sunscreen
Especially in the Summer months, sunscreen is so important to bring on your road trip! Many people forget to pack it in the car because they think they’ll be protected inside the RV most of the time. However, between stops along the way and daytime outings, sunscreen is necessary. It’s never fun to have to sit in the car for hours on end with a sunburn!
Bug Spray
Depending on where you’re planning on traveling in the US, bug spray can be a make or break for the trip. Even if you don’t plan on traveling somewhere with many bugs, it’s still smart to pack a bottle just in case. It’s common to spend nights outside when on a road trip, and the worst thing to happen to your skin is to be eaten alive because you forgot to pack the bug spray.
Swimsuits
Even if you don’t plan on traveling somewhere with a pool, lake or ocean, still pack the swimsuit! You’d be surprised at how many unexpected stops can be made along the way and you don’t want to find yourself having to swim in clothes!
Car Emergency Kit
You never know when a natural disaster can strike...it may sound dramatic but it’s true. Depending on where you live in America, take a look to see at the kind of emergency kit you should be keeping in your RV. For instance, if you live in California there’s an earthquake kit you should keep in your vehicle at all times.
Spare Toiletries
If you’re traveling by RV, be sure not to leave behind toiletries like shampoo, body wash, toilet paper and other nighttime necessities! It can be an uncomfortable road trip if everyone is smelling.
Tech Essentials
Nowadays no road trip is complete without all the gadgets loaded up in the car. Videos and games on your phone or tablet can be a great way to pass the time. It’s important to make sure you pack the RV with not only your desired entertainment device, but also the proper chargers and headphones! It’s never fun if you load up your tablet with movies then forget to bring the charger.
Snacks
This may go without saying, but last but definitely not least, do not forget the road trip snacks! Even if you have planned stops and restaurants along the journey, snacks are always a great backup in case someone gets cranky or car sick! It’s important to bring snacks that will make you feel good, not gross. A big soda and a huge bag of chips may seem like an easy idea initially but at the end of the day might make you feel gross along the way (as the driver especially this is not fun). Pack things like light drinks, granola bars and fruits!
