Thinking about making a beach trip in the RV? Great choice - it’s a perfect way to let you get the best of both worlds - a vacation complete with days spent having fun on the beach and nights spent relaxing in your second home.

To make sure the trip goes well (and you don’t bring tons of sand back home with you) here are a few beach RVing tips.

Have Things Designated for the Beach Only

The best overall tip we can give is to have your “stuff” separated into two groups:

-        Beach things

-        Things for everything else

For example, let’s talk about towels. You’ll probably want a few beach towels to sit on, dry off, etc. A few towels are just standard for a trip to the beach.

The key is to make sure these don’t get mixed up with your bath towels in the RV. Your bath towels stay in the RV and are only for RV stuff. Your beach towels are only for the beach!

This goes for other things too, like folding chairs. Again, it’s common to have a few folding chairs when you go down to the beach. Most people don’t want to be sitting on towels the whole time - a chair is much more comfortable.

But those chairs used for the beach will get sandy. Keep an extra set of folding chairs at the RV.

Don’t Leave the Awning Extended if You’re Gone

There’s a reason why so many RVs come with an awning. It’s the perfect solution to get some extra shade on a sunny day. It can also let you sit outside during a (light) rain.

But don’t leave it extended when you’re at the beach. Wind gusts tend to be stronger at the beach than most places, so it only takes one gust to break your awning and send it flying.

Does this mean you can never extend it? That’s up to you, but in general, we recommend trying to get by without it.

Bring a Foldable Wagon

These things are amazing. There’s a reason why everyone and their mother at the beach or a kid’s sporting event has one. Even though it doesn’t fold up to be really small, it’s small enough it can easily fit in any car. And when you unfold it, you have a great little vehicle to haul whatever you want.

-        Umbrellas

-        Beach toys

-        Towels

-        Snacks

-        Small children

Can you keep carrying everything yourself? Sure - but why? We promise that once you try taking a wagon, you’ll never go back to just carrying everything.

Book Your Campsite Way Ahead of Time

As you might expect, RV camping on the beach is kind of popular. Try to book your campsite as soon as possible to make sure you’re able to get a spot!

If you want the cheapest rates and the best chance of getting a spot, plan a trip for the off-season. You might actually find you like it that time of year since the sand won’t be as hot and the beach will be less crowded.

Rinse-Off Sand!

Last but not least, rinse off as much sand as possible before taking a shower. You can use the beach’s showers or your RV’s external shower.
