Do you have a TV in your RV? Maybe you like to keep a tablet or laptop around, so you have something to do at night? Do you keep electronics around in case you run into some bad weather and have to stay indoors?

Consider taking an RV trip without so many electronic screens around. Of course, your phone may be important to keep nearby, so you aren’t completely disconnected, but try using it only for phone calls or to look up the information you need. Stay off Facebook, mobile games, Netflix, etc.

Here are three reasons why.

Reason #1: Make the Most Out of Your RV Time

Time in your RV is special. It's a time where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of “normal” life and focus on the more important things.

For example, instead of watching TV at night with your spouse, sit around and talk with them. If it’s too hot or cold outside, that’s fine. Your RV is meant for living in, so hang out inside and talk.

If you’re by yourself, find another way to occupy yourself that doesn’t involve a screen. Maybe you like puzzles, so you can spread one out on the table and have at it. It could be that you love to read. Take a trip to the library before your next trip in your RV and stock up. Perhaps you’re a musician and love to jam out on a keyboard or guitar. Bring some instruments with you to keep yourself in good practice.

When your eyes are glued to a screen, and everything is fed to your brain, you aren’t using it the same way. You’re escaping into a world that doesn’t really exist.

Why not enjoy the world you’re in?

Reason #2: Get Away from Bad News

The last year has been rough, even for those who were able to keep their jobs and aren’t too worried about paying the bills or putting food on the table. The political landscape is polarizing; quarantining means we aren’t seeing family or friends as much as we’d like, etc.

It’d be great if we could hop on social media or read the news and routinely find something encouraging and uplifting. But we usually don’t. Instead, we see bad news, strife, and things that leave us feeling frustrated or sad.

Turning off the screen and getting away from news and social media helps you avoid those negative thoughts and feelings. It helps you spend more time thinking about the things in this world that you can control rather than the things you can’t.

Reason #3: Sleep Better

Isn’t it amazing how tired we get once the sun goes down when we’re camping? At home, we feel like we can stay up until midnight, but when we’re camping, we’re ready for bed when the sun sets at 8 pm.

Why? Well, mainly because when we’re at home, the artificial light of light bulbs, TV screens, and tablets triggers our brains to stay up later.

By staying away from screens while you spend time in your RV, you increase your chances of a good night’s rest and fall asleep more quickly. Who doesn’t want to sleep better?
