Let’s face it - while we love our RVs, there may be some creature comforts you are missing when you’re on the road. Maybe there aren’t any curtains, so it doesn’t feel as “homey” as you’d like. Maybe you love to cook but feel limited with the small amount of counter space available.
To help with that, here are a few of the best RV DIY projects we’ve seen that will make you feel right at home!
RV DIY Project #1: Hang Curtains in Your RV
Curtains are a memento of home and can add warmth and comfort to your RV.
- They give you some extra privacy, making it harder for people to see into your living space.
- Curtains help keep the RV insulated - especially if you buy thicker ones.
- They can also add a nice pop of color to a space.
An obstacle that RV owners may encounter is a lot of RVs aren’t configured to have curtains on every window. If you put curtains in yourself, it may mean drilling holes into the wall. This may not be an ideal option as nails could damage anything behind the wall.
The solution is to use Command Hooks. You can find these adhesive hooks at almost any Walmart, DIY store, etc. No tools are required to set up the hooks and they are damage-free. They have a very sticky back and can typically hold a decent amount of weight.
Go pick up a few of these and some small curtain rods and voila! You’re all set!
RV DIY Project #2: Make a Stove Cover
The lack of counter space can be frustrating to some folks. Even if you aren’t cooking inside your RV very often, you might feel restrained by how much you can do in your RV.
While some RVs have a stove cover built-in, not all of them do. If yours doesn’t, we recommend building one. It gives you extra counter space, making it easier for you to both prepare food and store things.
You have a few options here, depending on your personal tastes. You can use:
- Something very inexpensive, like a piece of plywood
- Laminate flooring cut to size
- A block of tile
Some materials are easier to cut than others. Depending on the size of your stove, you may be able to find a pre-cut piece of plywood at the store that fits perfectly.
RV DIY Project #3: Add a Backsplash
Most RV kitchens and bathrooms are simple and could use elements to spruce it up.
It would be a really fun DIY project to create a backsplash. Sometimes it’s nice to add “a little something” to help make the place feel more like home.
A great way to do that is to add a backsplash to either your kitchen or bathroom.
- The space is small, so you don’t need very many materials
- Relatively inexpensive
- Easy to install, especially if it’s peel and stick tile
- A little extra color goes a long way
You can use materials such as tile or even wallpaper for a fun design. If you’ve never put up a backsplash before, there are tons of videos on YouTube to help you out!
Conclusion
There are tons of things you can do to improve your RV and make it more like home. DIY projects may include making more counter space, adding lighting, improving storage areas, or just making it look more inviting.
