Need some ideas of where to RV this fall? Here are a few general types of trips to consider.

RV Fall Destination #1: State Parks with Forests

State parks are always a great place to RV - but the fall is the best time to go. There are a few reasons why we say that.

First, the trees are beautiful. The leaves change from green to an endless cascade of yellows, oranges, and reds. While you can see this simply driving down the highway, a state park with a large forest can really make you appreciate the beauty of nature.

Second, there tends to be much fewer people in the fall. Most Americans vacation during the summer because kids are out of school. In the fall, activities start back up so they aren’t able to do as much. Even though school isn’t in session Saturday and Sunday, kids tend to have other activities like sports, dance or music.

Finally, the mild weather makes it easier to stay outside and enjoy the great outdoors without getting too hot or cold. Obviously some places of the country will be hotter or cooler than others, but in general the fall is a great transition time to be able to see everything these parks have to offer without having to take breaks to cool off or warm up.

RV Fall Destination #2: Touristy Beach Towns

Some beach towns are just too busy in the summer. Have you ever been to Destin, FL in the middle of the summer? It can take you 45 minutes just to drive a short distance to dinner because everyone else is on the road at the same time.

That’s what makes the fall a great time to visit these touristy towns. Sure, there are other people there, but it’s much fewer than during the worst part of the year, so you can enjoy going out to the popular restaurants a bit more.

If you waited until the winter, you might miss out because some of the most popular spots close down. They just don’t have enough business in the winter, and would rather work really hard for 9 months out of the year and take 3 months off, rather than stay open year-round.

It’s more than just going to the popular restaurants, though. Beaches are less crowded and lodging is cheaper. It’s a win-win-win.

RV Fall Destination #3: Any Place with Mountains

Let’s face it - you just can’t go wrong visiting the mountains in the fall. Even if you aren’t close to a state park, a mountain town will undoubtedly give you some great hiking trails and places to get beautiful views.

Plus, visiting a small mountain town is almost always a way to slow down and remind yourself to relax a bit. Right now is a stressful time due to concerns over our jobs, what will happen with the election and COVID. It doesn’t help that we’re entering flu season either.

So take this time as a much-needed break to rest, relax, and recharge!

Conclusion

Where is your favorite RV fall destination? We’d love to hear about it!
