Renovating your RV isn’t as daunting as it may seem at first. Whether you are just looking to do a few small upgrades or completely overhaul the camper, here are a few tips and tricks to help.

RV Renovation Tip #1: YouTube is Your Best Friend

The first - and possibly best tip - we can give you is to use YouTube. Anything and everything can be learned there, so it’s a great resource that is absolutely free.

For example, let’s say you wanted to replace the floors as part of your camper renovation. No problem - just search for it on YouTube and a lot of videos on how to replace RV floors will pop up.

You can do this for just about any kind of renovation you’re trying to do. We know it’s not quite the same as having a family member or friend come over and show you how it’s done like the good ol’ days.

Camper Remodel Tip #2: Think About What You Really Need

Even though your RV is relatively small compared to most homes, there are probably certain parts you really don’t use very much. For example, how often do you sit at the dining table in the RV? Do you usually find other places to eat such as the couch, outside, or at nearby restaurants? If so, it might make sense to renovate that space.

Turn it into a place where you can work on your computer. Set up a place where you can watch TV at night. If you or someone in your family is a gamer, it can be a gaming station. Yes, we know we wrote an article on why you should RV without screens, but we also know a lot of people like to relax with their computer or TV and will do it anyways.

Don’t limit yourself here. You can make a little nook for reading, sewing, or a play area for kids. The point is you should turn your RV into something that works for your family!

RV Remodel Tip #3: Small Changes Can Make Big Differences

So you don’t like the cabinets in your RV anymore. We get it - styles change over time! But, before you completely tear out the existing cabinets to make way for new ones, consider small changes you can make that might make a big impact.

  • Could you paint the cabinets a different color?
  • Could you change the pull on the cabinets, giving them a different kind of look?
  • Could you put something on the inside, such as liners, to help it look nicer?
  • If you replaced just the cabinet doors, would that give you the new look you need?

All of these are much cheaper than tearing out the old cabinets, but you’d be amazed at the difference these things can make. This goes for any part of the RV. Before you go big, think about some small upgrades you can do to level up your camper.

Renovating Your RV Tip #4: Don’t Neglect the Walls

Is every home in your house bare? Probably not. You probably have wall mirrors, pictures of family, and maybe some wall art.

How about your kitchen? Do you have a backsplash to add some color, or is it just drywall? While a lot of people don’t have a backsplash, they’re very common to help liven up one of the most important rooms of the home.

Treat your RV the same way. Hang mirrors up to help it feel bigger. Put a backsplash in the kitchenette area. Hang some pictures. These are the types of things that turn an RV into your second home. This goes for any type of RV owner!
