Summer is just around the corner which means so are Summer
vacations! A great idea for this Summer is to take a family road trip in your
RV! It’s a great way to see the country and spend time with each other! Before getting
ready for the road trip make sure your RV is up-to-date
with all the latest accessories form the RV Shop, and take the time to factor
in these great tips!
1.
Pack Snacks
Stock up before
your road trip! Packing snack bags will not only keep everyone’s eating habits
a little healthier, but it will also minimize the complaining in the car. Typically
fruit is a great idea for road trips, but if you are going on a road trip
longer than a week, be careful what kinds of fruit you are bringing. The last
thing you want to do is attract bugs/animals if the fruit goes bad and starts
smelling. Stick to fruits like apples, orange and possibly bananas! Also, be
sure to pack lots of protein bars, nuts and other healthy alternatives to
typical junk food you find at rest stops.
2.
Bring Games (Digital and Board)
The long hours on
the road might get a little boring at times, and sometimes families can get
cranky. A great way to lighten the mood and keep the family interested is by
bringing along games! There are plenty of games
you can download on your phone these days to pay with big groups of people.
Also, since there’s so much room in the RV, you can also bring along some fun
board games that the family hasn’t played in a while.
3.
Create a Budget
Start your road
trip with somewhat of a budget. Something reasonable that you wouldn’t mind
going over a little. Having a set budget will help dictate how realistic
certain stops and destinations are. Sometimes people think that a road trip is
less expensive than other tropical vacations, but between gas, fun stops, food
and any RV accessories, the cost of the trip can add up very quickly. Creating
a budget will help you dictate the timeline and route of the trip!
4.
App Up!
There are numerous
apps on the market to make road trips better and more convenient! Do you know
about these ones?
·
GasBuddy- Although some of your navigation apps
will notify you of nearby gas stations, GasBuddy shows you the nearest, and
cheapest stops for your convenience.
·
RoadTrippers-
If you’re looking to document your road trip, this app is a great platform to
use! It not only lets your blog about the journey, but it also shows navigation
guides, allows you to check off places you’ve been and record places you want
to go!
·
Sit or
Squat- This app is a life saver! Sponsored by Charmin, this app alerts you
of the nearest bathrooms, and rates them on cleanliness and accessibility.
·
TVFood Maps- If you are driving cross country or
even along either coast, you are bound to be passing some fantastic restaurants
and diners! This app will show you places along your journey that have been
featured on Food Network TV Shows like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, No
Reservations, ect.
5.
Have a Rough Timeline
The best way to
maximize your time on the road, is to create some sort of timeline to follow
over the course of your trip. Although plans can change depending on driving
conditions or spontaneous stops, having a rough timeline will help our family decide
where you want to go, important stops and how much driving time should be
allocated.
