With the rise of gas prices over the years, you probably want to how to get the most miles out of your gas tank. It isn’t even a topic that is specific to RV’s; everyone wants to get the most out of their tank! We have done a little research and asking around and compiled what we believe to be the most useful tips.

Compare

We aren’t talking about comparing your RV to just any, but the exact same make and model. If you see another RV just like yours on the road or at a park, strike up a conversation about their MPG. If you are both receiving the same mileage out of your tank, then all is well, but if they’re getting better performance you should ask what they are doing.

They might have done a little after-market upgrade, only use gas from a particular gas supplier, or any number of things to get that higher MPG. Finding out what differs between your two vehicles will likely take you farther in understanding how to get the most miles out of your gas tank.

Cruisin’

Cruise control is a powerhouse in the MPG world! If you have cruise control and aren’t using it, slap yourself (figuratively, of course) because you could be saving huge sums of money on every trip! Cruise control doesn’t just save your mind from focusing on your speed limit; it prevents your engine from constantly altering its energy level.

This means no hitting the gas pedal every time your speed starts to drop, which expends a good amount of energy. Cruise control keeps your gas consumption constant over the hundreds or even thousands of miles, and this makes your engine more efficient and your wallet fuller.

Lose Some Weight!

We aren’t calling for you to hit the gym, we’re talking about the cargo in your RV! One awesome way we want to stress how to get the most miles out of your tank is by lightening your load. We often pack way too much in our RV because we have space and there are endless destination possibilities.

While being prepared for the unknown is a fantastic idea, that doesn’t mean you should be hauling jet skis across the country in case you feel like going to a lake. If you’re planning on going to a lake that’s different, but if you aren’t it’s better to leave them at home and rent one in the event of finding a lovely lake. You may like your jet skis a lot more, but those extra thousand pounds are sucking gas out of your tank if you’re just bringing them along “just in case.”
