Is your RV ready for the summer? If not, here are a few things to do over the next few weeks to get ready.

Check Your RV Batteries

Have you ever been stranded somewhere because your car battery died? Not fun. Being out in the middle of nowhere when your RV battery dies isn’t fun either. That’s why it’s important to check the batteries before the summer.

Make sure the terminals aren’t corroded. Take the battery out and look for cracks on the sides and bottom. Make sure the fluid levels are good. If it needs more water, only use distilled water.

Clean the RV Water System

You want clean water in your RV this summer, right? Take the time to clean out your water system - especially if you used antifreeze during the winter months.

Now that it’s heating up outside, you want to flush out all of that antifreeze. Essentially you keep flushing water through the system until the water has no pink color to it.

Next, it’s time to sanitize it. Most people will run bleach through the system to kill any bacteria and viruses lingering in there. Just make sure you flush all of it out with water!

Check the RV Tires

How are your tires doing? Are they ready to log some serious miles? Or have they seen better days and need to be repaired or replaced? You should replace your RV tires at least every 5 to 8 years.

Inspecting your tires may be the most important thing you do from a safety perspective. Just a few minutes of making sure they’re good can go a long way. If you think your tires need to be changed, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Blowing a tire when you’re on the road can result in a frustrating, as well as, dangerous situation. Ideally, you’ll want to have them rotated and inspected by a professional.

Inspect the RV Propane Tanks

A lot of RVs use propane. Does yours?

Your propane tank and gas lines need attention. They haven’t been used in months and who knows what you may find. Inspect the whole line - hoses, valves, regulators, and the tank itself. If you see damage, replace the part. This system is too important to take a chance with a damaged component. Having natural gas leak out of the system is not good.

Summer RV Tip #5: Look for Damage to the Exterior

Walk around the exterior of your RV. Do you see anything that seems out of place? Does anything seem badly damaged? Do you see some damage you never noticed before?

If you just have a few scratches, that’s not a big deal. But, if you notice something more major, you may want to get it checked out by a pro.

Clean Out the Camper

We’re almost to the fun part. Once you’ve verified the camper is safe and in good condition, it’s time to clean it out.

If you’re lucky, you won’t have too much to do. But it’s not uncommon to find new inhabitants. Plus, if you didn’t clean up well at the end of last year, you may have to do some tidying up.

Stock the RV for this Year

Once your camper is clean, it’s time to stock it with the types of things you’ll use on your excursions! You don’t need to stock fresh water or food until you’re about to leave. For other things like towels, sheets, dishes, etc., you can go ahead and stock up!

Have fun in your RV this summer!
