RV road trips are known to be great getaways and vacations. The main reason why most people consider traveling by RV is that they can make you feel like you never even left home in the first place. But then, you also need to bring in that kind of home environment that you want in your RV if you want to really feel at home.

1. Visual inspection

As an RV owner, it is vital that every time you intend to hit the road in your RV, you do a visual inspection of the entire vehicle. And the air conditioning unit is no exception. Ensure that there aren’t any tears or cracks in the outer cover of the AC unit. In the event that you notice any cracks or openings on the plastic covering of the AC unit, you can have a qualified RV repair professional take a look at it.

2. Clean up shop

In the event that everything looks good from outside, you can then check the inside unit of the AC system. Remove the plastic cover and clean the inside parts. You can also wash the filters using soapy water. This is this is the stage to clean up any debris and/or dust that might have found its way in the AC unit.

3. More cleaning to do

It is also vital that you access and deep clean the cooling fins of the air conditioner every few years. The AC cooling fins usually collect dirt and debris and end up being clogged. This makes the AC unit have a difficult time producing and circulating cool air in your RV. Cleaning the AC cooling fins is usually a DIY job. But you can also have a qualified professional come in and do it for you and check the other systems as well.

4. Clean the AC filters and condenser

Over time, the RV AC filters will collect a lot of dirt and debris while you are on the road. This will call for the need to have them cleaned or replaced from time to time to have the AC performing optimally. You will also have to check the AC condenser if any dirt, debris, or bugs might have found their way in there. If so, then clean it gently with flowing water. Remember, hard water flow can damage the condenser.

5. Chase the sun

As mentioned earlier, RV AC units only serve you for the duration of the time depending on the degree of care and maintenance you put on them. So, if you intend to use your RV AC unit for a long time, then you need to perform regular maintenance checks on them. Once this is done, you can safely hit the road and not have to worry about the scorching heat or cold winter seasons while on the road.
