3 Tips on RVing with Guests

Having an RV is fun, especially if you plan on hosting guests. But traveling with guests in the RV can prove to be challenging because of the limited space. Having extra people in the RV can be a difficult puzzle to unravel, especially with the limited accommodation and the frequent juggling. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean that you can’t maneuver your way around and manage to host a few guests in your RV.

These 4 tricks below will help you handle this dilemma of hosting guests in your RV.

1. Keeping it short

Since the RV has a small space, the level of interaction is very high. Interaction brings about friction and soon you will get on each other's nerves. To avoid such a scenario from arising the best thing to do is to specify how many days the guests will be sleeping over. Have a limited time frame, keep it to a maximum of two weeks if you can handle the friction. When you have guests, everyone has to make adjustments, and the more the guests stay over, all of you will feel the place is very crowded and people will get irritable. The other challenge is that most guests would love to sightsee and get out. To avoid exhausting yourself, keep the social outings at a two-week maximum.

2. Setting the expectations upfront

If you plan on having a successful guest visit, then it's good to set your expectations early enough. Before the guests arrive have a chat about the expected experience of living together with the guests and describe the layout of your RV. Let your guests know that space is limited and that packing light would be appropriate. Inform them early enough in case they have to use public showers and/or come with their own toiletries. Let them know if there is internet, Wi-Fi or additional communication devices on the RV. If they have pets, of course, they can bring them. Guests will also be informed of the planned daily schedules, since sightseeing tends to be a joint activity, it is best done as a group. The other important thing to address is the bedtime (waking up and sleeping). Since the RV isn't spacious, it's important for guests and hosts to synchronize their schedules. Also, privacy has to be maintained so that there is no disturbance at night when everyone is asleep.

3. Having pet rules

Having our pets is very important. But with the limited space in the RV, it’s crucial for some ground rules to be put in place with regards to pets. The rules apply to both the guests and hosts. If a guest comes with a pet, they can allow the pet to move around. If the host has a pet in the RV, there is no need to start placing restrictions to the animal because of the guests, let it continue enjoying its space (it’s still in his home). Let the guests understand that the pet is well behaved and will not interfere with their stay on the RV. It’s also good to inform your guests the pets you have on board just in case a guest might be allergic to a particular pet. Pets are lovely companions when sightseeing.
