Need a few RV decorating tips to turn your recreational vehicle into a home? Here are a few things to try.

RV Decor Tip #1: Add Some Color

Most RVs tend to have a lot of the same old, same old. White, gray, brown, and black tend to dominate the colors found in these small homes.

Try adding a bit of color to liven things up. If you’re a beach lover, add some tropical colors like bright greens, yellows or blues. More of a mountain person? Try colors more closely associated with being up in the mountains like different shades of greens and browns.

There are a lot of ways to add these colors. Throw pillows are great because they’re inexpensive, portable and you can change the cover as necessary. Rugs and blankets are good because they don’t take up much space. Wall art (though you probably can’t have too much due to the small space) also adds much-needed flair.

RV Decorating Tip #2: Choose a Theme

Another thing that can help with your decorating is to choose a theme. Earlier we mentioned a tropical theme if you like the beach. If you go that route, choose things that remind you of the beach. Maybe you put seashells in clear bowls or jars. Wall art can be pictures of the beach. Your plates and cups can have palm trees or seashells on them.

Going in a very different direction, maybe you’re the biggest University of Alabama football fan ever. Everything in the RV, from dishware and wall art in the kitchen to your rug in the living space to your blanket on the bed can scream Alabama.

The space is yours - make it something you like!

Decorating Tip for RVs #3: Paint

Paint goes a long way in any living space, but especially an RV. A lot of RVs can feel dark and dreary inside due to all of the dark colors. Lighten everything up with a little paint and you’ll notice a world of difference.

The best part is there really isn’t that much you need to paint to make a big difference. Your RV doesn’t have much wall space, and you probably don’t have a lot of cabinets either. Just one or two afternoons applying a fresh coat of paint and you’ll feel like you have a whole new RV.

Tip #4: Adding a Backsplash

There’s a reason why it’s popular for many homes to have a nice backsplash behind the kitchen counter. It adds variety and color to the kitchen without being too loud or expensive.

Consider doing the same for your RV. There are some backsplashes that you essentially just peel and stick, making it easy and mess-free to apply.

Likewise, consider updating the countertops. You don’t need to actually install brand new ones - they have special paints that can make it look better. For example, you can paint the counter to look like granite.

Tip #5: Curtains

Window curtains are one of those things that make a bigger difference than some people realize. This is especially true in a small space like an RV, where windows make up a large percentage of wall space.

Consider changing out your curtains to better match the theme of your RV. They’ll help the entire space feel more like a home, plus have the functionality of privacy and blocking out the sun when necessary.
