Does it make sense to spend time and money upgrading your RV, or should you leave it as-is? Here are a few things that may come into play and affect your decision.

Only Upgrade Your RV if Finances Allow

In this crazy world we live in right now, a lot of people’s finances are not stable. Some industries are doing well, but some are suffering. If you’re in an industry that’s not stable or your finances aren’t very secure, we recommend holding off on upgrading your RV.

Yes, it’d be great to have it be more comfortable or pleasing to the eye, but you need to make sure you can pay your bills before you upgrade something that works.

If finances aren't an issue, great!

Upgrade Your RV to Be More Functional

Sometimes it can be tempting to look at a feature (or lack of) in an RV and ask, “What in the world was the manufacturer thinking when they did this?”

For example, do you have enough space to store your towels in the bathroom? If not, one simple upgrade to consider is a basic towel rack you can mount on the wall.

Is your garbage can in the middle of the kitchen where it gets in your way? Attach a small one to the inside of a cabinet. That kills two birds with one stone: the garbage can is out of your way and you don’t have to keep looking at it or smelling it every time you walk by.

Are you able to use all of the space in those tall kitchen cupboards? Maybe, but probably not. Think about adding some shelves or wire racks in there to get more out of the space.

If you’re like us, you probably love to sit outside the RV at night. However, some RVs don’t come equipped with great outdoor lighting. Invest some money in something like solar string lights or an LED string of lights that you can attach to your canopy.

Need more counter space? Get a stove cover. It essentially turns the top of your stove into a counter when you aren’t using the burners. This doesn’t help for those times when you’re using the stove, but for 99% of the day, your burners are turned off.

These types of upgrades are very simple but great for making your RV more functional.

Upgrade Your RV if it’s Falling Apart

Another good reason to upgrade your RV is if it needs some serious maintenance.

For example, maybe the floor has seen better days and is getting destroyed in heavily trafficked areas. Maybe the windows look terrible and don’t seem to hold up well against the elements anymore.

In these cases, it might make sense to go ahead and spring for an upgrade. Spend more on something that’s higher quality that will last much longer.

One thing to note - if you’re planning on selling your RV soon, we don’t necessarily recommend going with the highest-priced stuff you can find. It’s a tossup because, while it will likely help the RV sell faster, you probably won’t get the full investment back. In other words, if you spend $500 on something instead of $300, don’t expect to get an extra $200 during the sale of the RV because you sprung for an upgrade.
