As you might know,
travelling is expensive! Purchasing plane tickets and reserving hotel rooms can
really take a great hit out of your bank account. That’s why some fearless
travelers opt to hop on an RV and take their vacations to the road since they
feature the best of both worlds: a place to stay and transportation. But still,
while RV’ing is a cost-efficient method of travel, there are even more ways to
save money.
In this article we will
discuss a few tips and tricks you can use to SAVE MONEY ON AN RV TRIP. Read on!
Food and Eating
One of the biggest
expenses when it comes to RV travelling definitely comes from food. However,
there is a huge opportunity to save money by bringing your own cooking
instruments and preparing your own food, instead of dining out every day of the
trip. You might even want to think ahead and plan the dishes you will be eating
each day, and buy the appropriate ingredients. As a general rule of thumb, you
will want canned, frozen, and dry goods that will last for long periods of time
in storage. You might consider also bringing a crock-pot or a slow cooker that
can be used both to prepare food, and conserve it for the next meal.
Entertainment and Recreation
Most, if not all RVs can
be equipped with a roof-top antenna, which can be used to pick free open TV
signals, which can offer significant family entertainment on the road or at
night when buckling down for bed. You might also want to consider renting a
movie or DVD if your RV is equipped with the proper playback equipment. If you
find yourself in an open Wi-Fi zone, you could also hop online and download
some free movies and shows.
Maintenance
You don’t imagine how
much money you can save by learning a little bit about your Recreational
Vehicle. Some RV specialists can charge you up to $100 an hour for taking a
look at your vehicle, and that’s without taking into account the materials used
for diagnostics and repair. Each time you avoid the mechanic and perform your
own repairs, you are essentially pocketing hundreds of dollars that can be
spent on road trippin’. The internet is a great source of information about
performing maintenance on your RV, websites like rvshop and Youtube can really
get you out of a bind without breaking the bank in the process.
Fuel Management
The other big expense
when taking to the road stems from fuel management, or lack thereof. In order
to save big on fuel expenses, be sure to bring a GPS that may help you trace
the most efficient routes to your destination. A GPS with satellite view can
help you find your bearings much more than a simple map can. Additionally, be
sure to take the flatter routes; climbing steep hills on your RV can really
wreck your fuel mileage. Even if the hill is the shortest route, you can still save
money on an RV trip by taking the long way around.
