An RV is your home when traveling, and for many people, it is their home full time. When thieves break into an RV, the feeling of your home being violated can be even worse than the loss of the monetary value of the items taken. RV security is a topic that all travelers should be aware of, and here we will offer a few tips to help keep your home away from home safe and secure.

Thieves hate light. One very simple and inexpensive security measure anyone can take is to install motion sensor activated lights around your RV. These lights will serve two purposes, a deterrent to thieves, and an early warning system to let you know when someone is approaching your RV.

Park defensively. When parking at a mall or any large parking lot where your RV will be out of your sight, always park with the entry door facing the business entrance or high traffic and well lighted areas, and park in as much light as possible. Remember hint number one.

Out of sight, out of mind. Keep valuables and electronics out of sight, and keep windows tightly shuttered as much as possible. Don’t tempt the weak minded.

Wireless security systems. Consider a wireless security system. Without wires to cut, a thief cannot disable these systems, and a loud siren or alarm will deter most thieves, and attract unwanted attention to them.

Lock it up. This may seem obvious on the surface, but even when leaving your RV for a few minutes to run into the convenience store for a cold drink or a snack, remember, it only takes a couple of minutes for a thief to ruin your whole trip.

Keeping your RV secure is not difficult with a few simple precautions and by establishing some good habits, and the peace of mind is well worth the effort.
