1. They're simpler to drive than you think. Driving an RV is different from a car, but not difficult, and you don’t need a special license. Before handing over the keys, the rental agent will orient you and provide safety instructions to give you peace of mind.
2. They're budget-friendly. Renting an RV for vacation can be more affordable than flying to a destination and staying in a hotel. You’ll have a small kitchen, so you can stock your food. While you will have to pay for campground hookups, food, supplies, and of course gas, you’ll have room to bring along a grill, cooler, folding chairs, and bikes, to avoid rental fees. Depending on your family size and the time of year, plan on $80 to $200 per night.
3. There are models for every family. (Hint: You can carve out more space from each model by letting older kids tent-camp outside!)
• “Type-A” motor homes sleep up to six, which make them ideal for families of four or more. They have all the conveniences of home, including a kitchen, dining area, bathroom, entertainment center, and storage space.
• “Type-B” models, though smaller, have similar conveniences as type-A and sleep up to four. Some models have built-in bunks or trundle beds.
• “Type-C” models have an over-the-cab bed for sleeping or storage.
• Towable trailers may offer more room, may get better gas mileage, and will allow you to detach your car.
